Sunscreen: Your Best Friend in the Journey of Aging Gracefully

Nov 30, 2023

We all know it, sunscreen is an absolute must-have in our skincare routine. But let’s dive a little deeper:

Sunscreen is not just any skincare product. It's our skin's guard against harmful UV rays, which are responsible for 90% of the external factors that cause premature aging. By eliminating this additional skin damage and making sunscreen a non-negotiable part of our daily routine, we actively protect our skin, maintaining it healthy and radiant.

We must wear sunscreen all year long, no matter if it's a sunny summer day or a cloudy winter afternoon. Here’s why:

There are two types of UV rays that we need to protect our skin from: UVA and UVB.

UVA rays (think of "Aging" for “A”) penetrate deep into the skin, putting us at a higher risk for skin cancer and damaging our precious collagen, which leads to premature aging, wrinkles, and pigmentation. These UV rays pass through windows and clouds, which means that our skin is constantly exposed.

UVB rays (think of Burning for “B”), on the other hand, are responsible for sunburn. They are more intense than UVA rays but don't penetrate the skin as deeply. UVB rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., especially during the summer months and are the primary cause of sunburns. They can also contribute to the development of skin cancer over time, as well as skin issues like hyperpigmentation and sensitivity.

To protect our skin from both UVA and UVB rays, make sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (it’s always claimed on the packaging). Also wear protective clothing, like hats and sunglasses, and seek shade as much as possible.

We must remember that aging is a beautiful and natural part of life, but taking care of our skin’s health allows us to present our best selves at every stage of life. After all, my philosophy isn't about reversing time but embracing each moment with confidence and inner glow.

Every morning, as you apply sunscreen, let it be a reminder of self-love. A small act with a significant impact.
